Wag the Dog
The phrase, "wag the dog," usually refers to distraction or manipulation- controlling perception rather than addressing reality.
At Yes!Pets we don't just want a wagging tail, we want to treat the dog.
Too often, obedience work alone focuses on surface-level compliance: sit, stay, heel. Obedience shapes the wagging tail as the visible behavior while ignoring the dog's deeper issues. Their: fear, confusion, excitement, or trauma goes unseen. Don't get us wrong- obedience skills are important for structure and communication and practiced behaviors have a place in every healthy relationship.
At Yes!Pets we believe in flipping the script. We look at behavior as communication, not disobedience. Obedience is a tool, and when it becomes the goal instead, we risk teaching compliance without understanding. Our goal isn't to control the behavior (it's only a consequence, after all)- it's to understand the animal and meet their needs with real support and lasting change so that obedience training is safe, fun, and long-lasting.
Let the dog wag the tail. Let their well-being lead the way.
